Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium – Sarasota, Florida

No visit to this Sarasota would be complete without a stop at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. All ages can enjoy the marine life here but kids will find this place especially fun. The Mote Marine Laboratory has been working hard to understand marine life since 1955 and currently houses over 100 marine species in their Aquarium, including a seahorse conservation lab and an extraordinary shark habitat. Children are able to touch the star fish and feed the stingrays. Upstairs, you will find rescued sea animals which include manatees, sea turtles, and dolphin. Children are able to learn about various ocean life which help enrich their knowledge with a better understanding of aquatic life.

Ringling Museum of the Circus – Sarasota, Florida

You are able to see the circus anytime you feel like it while visiting Sarasota. Appropriate for all ages, you can watch circus performers walk the wire, squeeze into a clown car, catch a selfie with a tiger, and much, much more. This little circus has all it takes to amaze; the glittering costumes, the human cannon, vintage posters along with the parade wagons. Want to delve deeper into the history of the circus? The ringling archives are held in the Circus Museum’s Tibbals Learning Center. These archives include the Ringling Collection, John Ringling’s Papers and the Circus Collection which also include records, manuscripts and papers of the American circus. Not only is this an entertaining event for your children, it is also an educational one at that.

Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall – Sarasota, Florida

Shaped like a large purple shell, The Van Wezel overlooks Sarasota’s picturesque Bayfront. Take your children to see performances that range from band recitals, to orchestra concerts, to plays. Let your children experience the arts so they have a chance to appreciate the depth of a performance without it being on a high definition screen so that they understand the real magic that can come off of stages.

Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary and Sarasota Jungle Gardens – Sarasota, Florida

Although these are two different places, you can’t see the Big Cat Habitat without visiting Sarasota’s Jungle Gardens. Both are located in Sarasota, Florida and both house some of the most magnificent creatures you and your family have ever seen. Let your children come face to face to some of the world’s most exotic animals around like monkeys, lemurs, camels, bears, tigers, and lions at Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary. You can even pet some of these animals, which makes the outside world grow exponentially larger through the eyes of a child. If you have time, make sure you also head over to Sarasota Jungle Gardens which is a 10-acre wildlife preserve where you can feed the pink Florida flamingos right out of the palm of your hand. This wildlife hub houses more than 150 animals, including birds of prey, primates and alligators among various other exotic animals that call this lush habitation home.
