From Finalist to Third Place
Coastal Living included Sarasota among ten finalists for its 2017 Happiest Seaside Towns program. The publisher's September 26, 2016 announcement explains that editors selected the finalists and online voting would determine the ranking. The announcement listed the finalists alphabetically; it was not the final result.
A January 27, 2017 report in The Local Dish reproduces the final ranked list, placing Sarasota third, after Grand Haven, Michigan, and Orleans, Massachusetts. Casa Del Mar's earlier story celebrated that 2017 recognition.
Keep the Recognition in Context
The result belongs to that magazine program and year. It is not a current measure of every visitor's experience, and it does not establish today's operating hours, travel times or attraction availability. The original story's reference to eleven towns has been corrected to ten, consistent with the publisher's announcement.
